2008 John Murphy Award for Excellence in Copy Editing
Texas Daily Newspaper Association's annual contest for member newspaper copy editors and sub-editors
Nominations for the 2008 John Murphy Award in Copy Editing will be accepted for copy editors on behalf of TDNA member newspapers with circulation of over 100,000 (This award alternates every year between papers with less than 100,000 circulation and papers with more than 100,000.).
- Entries may be submitted only by Texas daily newspapers who are members of TDNA.
- Only work appearing in TDNA member newspapers between January 1 and December 31, 2008 will be considered.
- A newspaper may nominate as many copy editors as it chooses, but only one person (to be designated by the newspaper) from each newspaper may submit these nominations.
- Nominations should be in the form of letters from whoever supervises the copy editors work. The letters should relate to the work of the copy editor nominee.
- Accompanying the nomination letter should be samples of the nominees work. A minimum of 12 and a maximum of 20 work samples must be included. A brief paragraph should explain EACH work sample. If 12 samples are submitted, there should be 12 accompanying explanatory paragraphs. Work samples may include headlines, an entire tear sheet, an individual story edited by the nominee or any other materials representing the nominee's work.
- Each entry must be contained in a 3-hole notebook or an 8-1/2 x 11 scrapbook. The form of the presentation (artwork, elaborate binding, etc.) will not be considered by the judges.
- Winner will be announced and presented with $1,000 cash award and a commemorative plaque at the TDNA Annual Meeting in March.
All entries must be postmarked no later than January 15, 2009
Contest entries will not be returned.
