2008 Pat Taggart Award for Texas Newspaper Leader of the Year
The Pat Taggart Award for Texas Newspaper Leader of The Year is awarded annually to a publisher or newspaper executive who has provided:

*Outstanding service and accomplishments for his or her newspaper. |
|
*Exceptional service to the newspaper business, accomplished through an association or as an individual. |
|
*Exemplary service to the community, city, state or nation to reflect credit upon the newspaper industry. |
Nominees should, at the time of their nomination, hold an executive or management position with a TDNA member newspaper. In addition, nominees should have demonstrated leadership qualities in the management, business, production, advertising, circulation or new operations which best emulate those demonstrated by Pat Taggart during his 50 years in the newspaper business.
Submission: Call TDNA at 512-476-4351 for a nomination form. Submit a cover letter, the completed nomination form, and attach any pertinent supporting documents.
Artistic qualities of the nomination submissions (such as the use of artwork, photographs etc) will not be considered in the selection of the award recipient.
There shall be no restrictions regarding who may submit nominations. Members of the Selection Committee may, if they choose, submit nominations.
The Award The newspaper executive chosen by the Selection Committee shall be announced and presented a commemorative plaque at the TDNA Annual Meeting.
History of the Pat Taggart Award Since it was established in 1977, the award has become one of the highest honors in Texas journalism. Pat Taggart rose from the ranks of the Fentress Newspapers to president of the group and gave exceptional leadership to the newspaper business. Taggart was active in TDNA, SNPA, ANPA and other newspaper-related organizations and served on numerous local and state service organizations. He died in 1990.
